Josee Poupart's tallies session described a great book on tallies--a wide variety of them, really fascinating strategies. 

It is in French, but she said the Google translate was great. Diagrams looked really effective.

I will probably buy one for the library and maybe one for myself. If anyone else is interested we can bundle them for shipping to the US perhaps?
