Surgical ligaments made of bobbin lace

November 30, 2025 12:11 PM | Jill Hawkins

While taking the Cluny de Brioude online workshop with Josee Poupart, we learned about this is an old TV segment on the bobbin lace surgical ligaments developed at the Atelier Conservatoire National de la Dentelle du Puy.  It is in French, but you can turn on the close-captions, and then in the settings, ask to auto-translate the captions to English.

Des ligaments en dentelles du Puy

Some of the members of the online workshop are trying to find out exactly what the new stitch is that was developed specifically to make this lace.

I had no idea that was a thing... OMG. I wonder how that played out.

I know how to search the US patent system for things like that, but no idea how to do the French/EU system. But it must be in there. And might be off patent at this point....??

One of the studentsin the class is a patent agent and found the patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/FR2623083B1/en

If you click on the link it will lead you to the European patent, that is not active anymore. The French patent is not active anymore either, it expired.

Will post more info if anything comes up. I think this is fascinating!
